Description
Our returning HNW private clients are seeking an experienced & highly polished Butler to join their established household team within a formal, traditionally run, fully staffed estate.
Supporting the family across multiple private residences worldwide, this is a long-term position suited to a career Butler who is confident working at the highest level of private service.
You must be discreet, proactive, well-presented, and comfortable taking direction from the long-standing House Manager, while also being able to work independently and anticipate needs.
You must be fully flexible and willing to travel extensively, often in advance of the principals, ensuring all residences are prepared to an exceptional standard prior to arrival.
Working alongside several other butlers on rota, travel is 3-4 times a year (mainly Caribbean & Europe) for 2-3 weeks at a time.
Working hours/schedule:
40+ hours per week on rota including weekends as required – flexibility required
Duties include (but are not limited to):
Daily:
Opening and closing of the house
Setting of formal and informal tables and service of all meals, as required, liaising with the private Chef
Preparation of and service of breakfast trays
Mixing and service of drinks and canapes
Cleaning and setting of fires and grates
Cleaning and polishing of silver and brass
Helping the housekeeping team with heavier cleaning tasks
Valeting and management of the male principal’s wardrobe
Cleaning, polishing and bulling of shoes
Ad-hoc errands and requests
Dog care and walking
General:
Travel in advance of the principals to other estates, residences or hotels, to ensure everything is ready for their arrival
Packing and unpacking for the principal
Greeting of guests
Full Butler service at formal dinners and lunches
Service of wines and cigars
In conjunction with the House Manager, planning and preparing of events, dinners, lunches and guest arrivals
Ad-hoc driving for the principals
Ensuring stocks of cleaning equipment, household goods and provisions.
In conjunction with Chef, cleaning of the kitchen
Multi-Residence & Travel Coordination
Seamlessly transition service standards across multiple private residences
Assist in travel logistics and coordination with household staff, chauffeurs, and external service providers.
Provide continuity of service regardless of location or environment
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Butler or in a comparable senior household service role
Proven experience in formal service, guest relations, and event support
Full flexibility to travel internationally, including extended stays
Full UK driving licence
Impeccable presentation, discretion, and reliability
Excellent communication skills and strong cultural awareness
Formal butler training (British Butler Institute, British Butler Academy, or equivalent) is desirable as is experience with wine cellar management
Salary: £60-80,000 DOE & if live in or out
Accommodation: 1-2 bedroom apartment on the estate (parter only welcome)
