Description
Keswick Film Festival is Cumbria's premier cultural cinema event - and one of the friendliest. Founded in 2000 by Keswick Film Club, a not for profit charity, our Festival is run entirely by a team of volunteers dedicated to bringing audiences the best of international and independent cinema to the heart of the Lake District community. Films are being screened at the legendry Alhambra Cinema, the beautiful setting of the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick and in the distinctive and vibrant Rheged.
We are committed to providing a Festival for everyone who shares our love of cinema and the inspirational setting of the Lake District. We are also proud to host the Osprey Short Film Competition and Awards, championing Cumbria and Cumbrian talent both in front of and behind the camera.
KFF2026 will give you the opportunity to see some exceptional films - award winners, premieres and some hidden gems that may never make it into commercial cinemas in the UK. This could be your one and only chance to see them.
We are showing over 30 fabulous films and documentaries from 16 countries over six continents. There are edge of the seat thrillers and dramas, powerful and thought - provoking documentaries, laugh out loud comedies and heartwarming and fun films for the family to enjoy. As always, we have the quirky for those who like something different.
For our retrospective, this year we look back to 1976 with classics including Taxi Driver, Bugsy Malone and The Man Who Fell to Earth.
Two of our 1976 films feature the brilliant Jodie Foster, and we will also be showing her most recent film; a Private Life is a critically acclaimed black comedy murder mystery.
Other film highlights this year include Sirat honoured at both the Cannes Film Festival 2025 and the Golden Globes 2026. Sirat is a road movie like no other.
A world premiere, All and Nothing is a mesmerising documentary exploring the life of the late conceptual artist Li Yuan-chia, tracing his journey from Second World War era China to Taiwan, 1950s Milan, Bologna and Swinging Sixties London, culminating in his 1971 establishment of the LYC Museum and Gallery in a house at Banks in rural Cumbria next to Hadrian's Wall.
The Secret Agent is an exceptional thriller also honoured at the Golden Globes 2026 and at Cannes. It was described in a Guardian review as "a brilliant Brazilian drama of an academic on the run in the murderous 1970s."
Happy Feet delves into the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song. A penguin who cannot sing expresses himself to attract a female through his amazing talent for tap-dancing.
Kangaroo is a heartwarming Australian family film that combines humour, emotion, and a strong message about wildlife conservation, making it a delightful watch for an audience of all ages.
You will be truly inspired by When Life Gives You Lemons... Everyone's Everest. A world premiere about Sally Orange MBE and her resilience in her battle against cancer. Sally shares how she found, alongside a community of survivors and experts, the nature and the wild helped her recover. The film is followed by a Q and A with Sally herself and the director, Tom McShane.
Terry Abraham Presents....is a special event featuring the self - taught filmmaker and photographer. Terry will introduce a selection from his fantastic catalogue including the BBC hit series Life of a Mountain. This a unique opportunity to see an amazing Lake District filmmaker in person answer your questions.
We welcome a presentation by Sustainable Keswick and the documentary Common Ground about indigenous farmers in the US discovering alternative techniques to balance the climate and improve health.
We are also delighted to be working again with Carlisle Collage Film studies students as part of our commitment to encouraging young people's interest and involvement in cinema. The students have selected a series of recent films from vibrant US filmmakers.
As usual the Osprey Short Film Awards will take place. These prestigious awards celebrate the work of talented and up and coming filmmakers.
