Technical Partners are currently supporting a leading engineering organisation with the appointment of a Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join their growing C&I team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced C&I Engineer to take a leading role on complex, safety-critical engineering projects across areas including Nuclear New Build, Decommissioning, Reactor Operations and Fusion.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from concept and design through to commissioning, while also supporting the development of junior engineers and contributing to the wider growth of the C&I capability.

The Role

As a Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer, you will:

Lead multidisciplinary C&I design activities across the full engineering lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning.Produce and review key C&I engineering deliverables, including specifications, control philosophies, basis of design documents, instrument data sheets, loop diagrams, I/O lists and technical substantiation reports.Develop and review control system architectures, including I/O allocation, communication protocols, network topologies and cybersecurity considerations.Contribute to safety and risk assessment activities, including HAZOP, SIL assessments, HAZAN and FMEA.Apply relevant functional safety and engineering standards, including BS EN 61508, BS EN 61511 and BS EN 61513.Provide technical support throughout procurement, construction, installation and commissioning activities.Act as a technical point of contact for clients, suppliers and internal project stakeholders.Mentor and support junior engineers, helping to develop technical capability within the wider C&I team.Contribute technical input to bids, tenders and early project development.Support project planning, scheduling and risk management activities.Identify opportunities for technical improvement and contribute to the continued development of C&I engineering processes and standards. About You

We are looking for an experienced Control & Instrumentation Engineer with a strong background in delivering C&I engineering on complex or safety-critical projects.

You will ideally have:

A degree or equivalent qualification in Control, Instrumentation or a related engineering discipline.Significant experience in Control & Instrumentation engineering, ideally within nuclear, energy, process or another highly regulated/safety-critical environment.Strong knowledge of instrumentation selection and qualification.Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety principles.An understanding of nuclear safety principles would be advantageous.Knowledge of EMC, process control and control system design.Working knowledge of relevant IEC/BS standards and functional safety frameworks.Experience contributing to technical assessments such as HAZOP, SIL, HAZAN or FMEA.Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.The ability to provide technical leadership and mentor less experienced engineers.A collaborative approach, with the confidence to influence technical decisions and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.A proactive approach to innovation, continuous improvement and technical development.
