Description

Are you a Plant Fitter, HGV Technician, Agricultural Engineer, Forklift Engineer or Ex-Military Vehicle Mechanic looking for a secure, long-term engineering role with excellent training and career development?

We are recruiting a Plant & HGV Maintenance Engineer to join a major Ministry of Defence (MOD) support contract based in Woodbiddge, Suffolk.

This is a varied, hands-on engineering position maintaining and repairing a wide range of plant machinery, mechanical equipment and materials-handling vehicles.

What's on Offer?

GBP37,791 basic salary plus GBP3,000 annual Sponsored Reserve allowance

GBP40,791 combined annual package before overtime

Overtime opportunities, including double time for applicable Bank Holiday work

Permanent position supporting a long-term MOD contract

40-hour working week

Fully funded technical training and development

Pension and comprehensive employee benefits

Career progression opportunities within Defence engineering

The Role

As a Plant & HGV Maintenance Engineer, you will carry out servicing, maintenance, inspections, fault-finding and repairs on a diverse fleet of mechanical plant and materials-handling equipment.

Equipment includes forklift trucks, telehandlers, excavators, generators, lighting towers and other construction plant and materials-handling equipment (MHE).

Your responsibilities will include:

Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine servicing

Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults

Completing mechanical repairs and component replacements

Maintaining engines, braking systems, steering systems and hydraulic equipment

Inspecting and testing machinery to ensure safe operation

Carrying out pre-delivery and compliance inspections

Maintaining accurate service records and maintenance documentation

Supporting fleet reliability, equipment availability and operational readiness

About You

We welcome applications from Plant Fitters, HGV Technicians, Agricultural Engineers, Forklift Engineers, Mobile Plant Engineers, Heavy Vehicle Technicians, Mechanical Maintenance Engineers and Ex-Military Vehicle Mechanics.

Ideally, you will have:

Experience servicing, maintaining or repairing vehicles, plant machinery or heavy mechanical equipment

Mechanical, electrical or hydraulic fault-finding skills

Experience completing maintenance inspections and repairs

A Level 3 engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience

Good safety awareness and a practical approach to problem-solving

Willingness to participate in the Sponsored Reserve scheme

Experience within the Armed Forces, including REME, Royal Engineers, RAF or RLC engineering backgrounds, would be welcomed but is not essential.

Previous military experience is not required.

Important Sponsored Reserve Commitment

This position includes participation in the MOD Sponsored Reserve scheme.

You will remain a civilian employee while undertaking structured, fully paid military training as part of the contract.

In return, you will receive an additional GBP3,000 annual allowance alongside your basic salary.

Training commitments are planned in advance, and the full requirements will be explained before interview.

This opportunity is suitable for both civilian and ex-military engineers who are comfortable with the additional commitment and interested in supporting Defence operations.

Why Apply?

This role offers the opportunity to work across a varied fleet rather than being limited to one type of equipment.

With long-term contract stability, funded technical development, career progression and an attractive overall package, this is an excellent opportunity for experienced engineers seeking their next move.

If you are a Plant Fitter, HGV Mechanic, Agricultural Engineer, Forklift Technician, Maintenance Engineer or Ex-Forces Engineer, we would like to hear from you.
