Locomotive Technician (Electrically Biased)

Location: Chesterfield Area (commutable from Worksop, Mansfield, etc.)

Salary: GBP40,000 – GBP48,000 DOE with potential for some overtime

Annual Leave: 28 days + 8 days bank holiday

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Electrically Biased Locomotive Technician to join a busy rail depot team based in the Chesterfield area. In this hands–on role, you will carry out the maintenance, fault–finding, and modification of locomotives and rolling stock. This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in electrical engineering and a passion for the rail industry to join a highly skilled and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repairs:

Maintain and repair locomotives and rolling stock to meet safety and technical standards. Conduct electrical fault–finding and diagnostics across control and power systems. Accurately interpret and work from electrical wiring and schematic diagrams. Complete accurate documentation of all work carried out. Compliance & Quality:

Adhere to industry and internal safety protocols. Maintain high standards of depot housekeeping and safe working practices. Support continuous improvement by identifying areas for operational efficiency. Collaboration:

Work closely with team leaders and management to ensure optimal asset performance. Engage in knowledge–sharing and process improvement within the engineering team. Person Specification:

Qualifications & Experience:

ONC/HNC or equivalent in an electrical discipline. Time–served experience in electrical engineering. Strong understanding of locomotive or rolling stock systems is highly desirable. Previous experience with schematic diagrams and control systems. Skills:

Ability to interpret technical documents and work instructions. Proactive, detail–oriented, and safety–focused. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, Day Shifts Overtime available on an as–needed basis On–site role across two depot locations in the Chesterfield area Compensation & Benefits: Salary: GBP40,000 GBP48,000 depending on experience Holidays: 28 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays Parking: Free on–site parking is available Work Schedule:
