Location: Welwyn Hatfield, Hertfordshire (Hybrid)

Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent, Hybrid role between office and site

About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established and highly respected Groundworks and Civil Engineering contractor operating across Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join their team.

This is a hybrid role, combining office-based responsibilities in the Welwyn Hatfield area with regular visits to multiple construction sites across Hertfordshire and neighbouring counties. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting and maintaining a positive safety culture throughout the business.

Candidates with a background in Groundworks, Civil Engineering, Infrastructure, or Construction will be particularly well suited to this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) compliance across the business.Develop, implement and continually improve health and safety policies, procedures and management systems.Conduct regular site inspections, audits and safety assessments across multiple active construction projects.Ensure compliance with current UK legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM Regulations and other relevant industry standards.Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and non-conformances, producing detailed reports and recommendations.Support operational teams with risk assessments, method statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work.Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and training sessions to employees, subcontractors and site management teams.Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, external auditors and senior management regarding health and safety matters.Monitor and report on key HSE performance indicators and identify opportunities for improvement.Promote a proactive safety culture and encourage best practice throughout all levels of the organisation.Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to audits, inspections, incidents and training. Candidate Requirements

Essential

Previous experience in a Health & Safety Manager, HSE Manager or Senior Health & Safety Advisor role within the construction industry.Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction industry best practice.Experience conducting site audits, inspections and incident investigations.Ability to communicate effectively with site teams, management and external stakeholders.Excellent organisational and reporting skills.Full UK Driving Licence.Willingness to travel regularly to sites across Hertfordshire and surrounding counties. Desirable

Experience within Groundworks, Civil Engineering, Infrastructure or General Construction projects.NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate.Membership of IOSH and/or working towards Chartered status.Experience managing health and safety management systems.Environmental management knowledge would be advantageous.
