Description
Made in the Czech Republik possibly 80s or 90s. Very solid reliable bass. The previous owner had a new, thicker ebony fingerboard and bridge fitted with professional adjusters in 2006 by the late great London luthier Roger Dawson which replaced the cheaper fingerboard and bridge that were on before.
This considerably improved the power, sustain and playability of the bass which makes it a lot better than this type of laminated bass. This upgrade to the bass cost £500 in 2006 and at the time the bass was worth around £800 without the upgrade. It doesn't however increase the value all that much because nowadays for around £1000 one can find comparable instruments.
Despite that it's a great bass - very stable and played-in, unlike a new instrument. It is very easy to play and has a very big sound. It's strung with Thomastik Spirocore which still have a lot of life and growl in them. The bass is loud, punchy and a great option for someone who just wants a gigging bass that's super sturdy and won't react to weather changes ( being laminate ) and doesn't have to worry about damaging their valuable instrument.
I'm selling because I used this bass only to practise on when visiting family ( as I don't live in the North East ) and it's now surplus to requirements. Prior to that it was my backup bass when I was a professional jazz musician in London from 2003-2008. Also with the bass is a bow quiver, a carbon fibre french bow and bow case. The instrument itself is worth around £1000 ( I would argue more given the upgrades ), and the bow, bow case and quiver cost around £300 all together...so a pretty good deal all in all.
Bass is 3/4 size
String length is 104cm
Length of Back 109cm
