Experienced and self-sufficient Live in Housekeeper/Confident Family Cook sought for part-time country residence near Marlborough, Wiltshire. The family’s current Housekeeper/Cook is retiring after many years of service and highly recommends both the family and the position.

The role requires an accomplished housekeeper who is confident taking responsibility for the smooth running and presentation of the house, including all cleaning, laundry, ironing and linen care. To assist with the latter, there is a well-equipped laundry room with all the right equipment, including a super-efficient roller for pressing bed linen. Experience caring for fine furnishings and art is essential.

A confident cook is a must, with the principals enjoying good, hearty home cooking when in residence. There is no requirement for elaborate or highly formal cuisine, as a caterer is engaged for larger and more formal dinner parties. Household provisioning, shopping and errands will also form part of the role. 5 shoots per year take place and assistance will be required.

Full time Gardener employed and the Housekeeper will liaise with him to ensure the house is prepared for the principals’ arrival, including coordinating flowers for the house. Deliveries, tradespeople and workmen should also be received and supervised as necessary.

When the principals are in residence, there are also two terriers, a rabbit and a guinea pig to help care for — all of whom, rather charmingly, are part-time residents too!

Flexibility is important. Principals visit 50% of weekends a year. When is residence the usual working week will be 5 days per week (Tues/Weds or Weds/Thurs off) 9am–6pm with an hour for lunch, although some evening work will be required. On these occasions, the Housekeeper may take time off during the afternoon before returning later to close curtains, light fires and assist with the evening preparation for supper. When not is residence, Housekeeper will be responsible for own schedule and weekend work will not be required. Principals know well in advance when they will be visiting.

Private and separate 3 bed accommodation provided and all bills (except phone) covered. Suitable for partner, dependent(s) and pets to accompany.

This position would particularly suit an experienced Housekeeper/Cook who enjoys working independently, takes genuine pride in a well-run house and is happy to adapt their working pattern according to when the principals are in residence.

A confident driver is essential.

Interviews to commence right away for a December/ January 2027 start.

Salary: Circa £32,000gpa with flexibility dependent on level of experience.
