Description

We've had Loki a year. He was sold as a lurcher collie cross, but we don't think thats accurate. We think more likely lurcher and gsd cross. Hes a very loving boy with needs we can't fulfill.

Loki is still intact, something we planned on getting done but didn't get around to it. His date of birth is 16th May 2021. He weighs roughly 24kg and is up to date with all his vaccinations and worming/ flea treatment (care plan with Vets4Pets). We had him chipped when we got him and the vet said it was likely his first vet visit. Hes currently eating wet food pouches mixed with dry, once a day. Plus plenty of treats. He is medium-high energy and would thrive with regular walks, lots of play and general stimulation.

‐-------------------------------------------------------------------

The good bits:

Hes very affectionate and has bonded strongly to me, my partner and my 7 year old. He likes to sleep under the duvet, all year round. If not on the bed, in his own bed with a blanket. He has lots of toys, two beds and a few harnesses and leads that would go with him. He watches TV, especially if there is an animal on it. He LOVES to play. Usually with a ball but a rope and some tug of war is good too.

He is great with children. I have a 7 year old and they adore each other. As long as the child is sensible Loki would be fine (even the best of dogs can be pushed too hard by a rowdy child).

‐-------------------------------------------------------------------

The challenging bits:

He is nervous reactive on the lead to any other dog. He becomes aggressive so we walk him with a muzzle for peace of mind. He is fine with our friends dog, she comes in the house and they play. So I think its just on lead hes reactive, potentially fear reactive rather than aggression reactive. He had a wound on his leg when we got him which needed antibiotics. It was quite bad. After antibiotics the wound has healed, leaving a scar.

Walking him is difficult as he is very reactive. So we walk him on the beach with a long line. He is let off the lead with his muzzle on as his recall is actually pretty good.

We've been working on his reactiveness and we were making progress. Until he lunged for a cat when I was walking him and a woman threatened me. Due to my mental health, I can't walk this route anymore which means all walks are done with a drive first. I would suggest Loki to be the only animal in the household.

He struggles to poop outside because we have a TINY courtyard garden with no grass. We recently stayed at my partners mums in Heckmondwick and she has a big garden. He loved it, ran around chasing footballs (loves balls of any kind) and pooped as normal in the garden. He is house trained.

‐-------------------------------------------------------------------

Honestly, hes a good boy. And we love him, and him us. But we are not a good match. We are not active enough for him due to health conditions, we do not have the garden he needs and we dont have the money to be able to afford a behaviourist.

I am hoping to rehome him somewhere more suitable. We are looking for active people, maybe with older children who will help put with walks and play. He needs a big garden and plenty of attention.

We are in no rush to rehome him. And if you have read this far, please note the price is not only negotiable but I'd be happy for him to go for free to the right home.
