Dachshund Looking for a New Home – £500

This is an extremely difficult decision, but I’m looking to rehome our loving six‑year‑old Dachshund, Schnitzel. She originally belonged to my mum, who rescued her. Since my mum passed away, Schnitzel has been my little companion, and this choice is heartbreaking.

Schnitzel is toilet trained — she always wees and poos outside — and she has no health problems. She’s insured, loves her walks, loves cuddles, and she’s unusually quiet for her breed. She doesn’t bark, doesn’t beg for food when you’re eating, and genuinely thinks she’s not a dog. Her favourite treat is sliced ham, and everyone who meets her falls in love with her immediately.

She’s brilliant with children and other dogs. She doesn’t have a bad bone in her body and sees the good in everyone. If anything, she doesn’t quite understand that some dogs in Leeds city centre aren’t friendly — she just wants to love them all.

She isn’t spayed, and I’m asking £400 to make sure she goes to a caring home that won’t use her for breeding. I’ve never walked her off‑lead, simply because I haven’t trained her recall and living in Leeds city centre makes it unsafe to try.

I’ve been working remotely until now, but my job now requires me to travel across the UK, and I can’t give her the time and stability she deserves. She’s a wonderful dog who needs a loving, steady home.

The money from her sale will be used to take my mum’s ashes to her favourite place — the spot on the other side of Skipton where she always took Schnitzel for walks. Mum's friend had a caravan there you see.
