For sale very rare Ercol Windsor Chester extending oval dining table and a set of four Swan Back chairs in Golden Dawn finish. The table is ideal for the smaller dining area or for use when guests come around to visit. The table seats 4 places and extends to seat up to 6 places. The beautiful dining set was manufactured in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and is now back in fashion (keenly collected and highly regarded). Ercol furniture is synonymous with good design, quality materials and craftsmanship and is built for longevity. This is a real eye catching piece of vintage retro furniture which no longer in production.


Ercol Windsor Chester extending dining table:

The table top is made from planks of nicely figured solid elm with the grain across the length. The length of the top can be increased in size when two halves are pulled apart to reveal an extra leaf which is housed below. The leaf conveniently folds in half and stores away below the top, and when it's use is required you simply pull both halves of the top apart, unfold the leaf, and push all 3 parts together. Rotating brass clips hold the 3 sections of the top together. This feature is extremely convenient and easy to use. All the edges of table top are beautifully rounded. Oval top is supported by a pedestal base which consists of a well turned centre column and a quartet of down swept legs.

Each chair has a solid elm seat with elm backs, spindles and legs. The seats are showing some lovely complex elm grain. Tall arched back consists of 4 spindles and a pierced centre splat which features the extremely popular swan design. The swan motif is an homage to the town of High Wycombe, popularly known as the furniture capital of Britain. The well constructed solid elm seats are inset beneath with angled tapering legs which provide perfect support, and matching H pattern stretchers help to bolster the chairs structural rigidity. Original Ercol label is still attached.

The set is in excellent (original) vintage condition with some light signs of wear mostly to the legs (please refer to photos). All pieces are free of any damage, repairs or wear to joints. The table is sturdy with no separation to the elm top. It has been cleaned and waxed.
