Apple iMac - 27-inch, Retina 5K, Late 2015 - 1TB HDD, Intel Core i5, 12GB RAM

Description

Listing: iMac 27”, 5K Retina Display, Late 2015 model (model identifier iMac 17.1). 1TB internal HDD, 12GB RAM, Intel Core i5-6500 processor. Includes original power cable. Does not include any other accessories.

This is an excellent condition, fully-functioning iMac 27-inch model with the 5K Retina display. NOTE: It has minor pink banding around the edges of the display highly common to this model, as well as a mark in the lower-left of the display which becomes barely noticeable when using.

Contains 12GB RAM, configured by 3x 4GB DDR3 sticks; there are four easily-accessible slots at the rear of the device, and these can be upgraded as desired. The official stated maximum capacity is 32GB, however you can find online that it is actually capable of taking up to 64GB. This 12GB is already plenty snappy, and can be made even more so through this simple RAM upgrade.

The internal drive is a 1TB HDD (note this is not a Fusion Drive). The disk is now 11 years old and so faces the expected usual risks of a drive of its age; proceed with sensible caution if using as your main device and it would be sensible to consider using an additional drive instead. My personal recommendation would be to install macOS on an external SSD via the USB port - this is how I have it installed on my other identical device and it runs super well. Some people choose to open up the machine to remove the internal disk drive and replace it with an SSD; this is also an option with plenty of guides online and kits to re-apply the adhesive for the display.

The Intel Core i5-6500 Skylake-series desktop processor is Quad Core and runs the current latest official operating software just fine. It has a 3.2GHz clock speed which can boost to 3.6GHz.
The AMD Radeon R9 M390 GPU/graphics card contains 2GB VRAM total.

The body of the device is in fantastic condition, with only minor signs of age (as pictured). The glass of the screen is in fantastic condition. Speakers, camera, and other I/O function as expected at point of testing. As above, please note there is expected pink banding around the edges of the screen, though I would say this is barely noticeable when using; this is a highly common issue with these models, and nearly every one that still runs these days has it. There is also the mark to the lower-left of the screen as described and pictured.

It is updated to the latest officially-supported software, though this can be easily bypassed to macOS Sequoia using OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) should you so choose (please perform this at your own risk, no responsibility is accepted if you choose to do so). This has a very high success rate and I can speak from experience that this greatly enhances the use of the Mac, and can easily give it another few years of life. Many people also choose to gut the internals of this machine in order to use the now-coveted 5K display as a monitor or secondary display.

Also just a really nice statement piece: this model’s slim and curved-back design is truly the peak of iMac design. Display is fully tiltable, and the large screen and built-in camera make for an enjoyable FaceTime experience. Model identifier is iMac 17.1.
