Padmasambhava, widely known as Guru Rinpoche ("Precious Guru"), is one of the most influential figures in Vajrayana Buddhism. Revered as the Second Buddha by followers of the Nyingma tradition, he is credited with introducing and firmly establishing Vajrayana Buddhism in Tibet, Bhutan, and the Himalayan region during the 8th century.

His name, Padmasambhava, means "Lotus-Born," reflecting the traditional account of his miraculous appearance from a lotus in the land of Oddiyana. Celebrated as a great master, meditation teacher, scholar, and tantric adept, Guru Rinpoche is honored for overcoming obstacles, guiding practitioners, and preserving profound Buddhist teachings for future generations.

According to Buddhist tradition, Guru Rinpoche declared:

"My father is intrinsic awareness, Samantabhadra. My mother is the ultimate expanse of reality, Samantabhadri. I arise from the state of non-duality, known as the Glorious Lotus-Born. Beyond birth and death, I sustain myself through the realization that transcends all dualistic concepts and act for the benefit of beings in the same enlightened way as the Buddhas of the past, present, and future."

Hand-Painted Gold Face

Lost-Wax Casting Technique

This Padmasambhava statue is handcrafted using the ancient Lost-Wax Casting method, a traditional metalworking process practiced by Nepali artisans for generations.

The sculpture begins with a detailed wax model that is meticulously shaped by hand. A ceramic mold is then formed around the wax before it is melted away, leaving a precise cavity. Molten metal is poured into the mold to create an exact replica of the original design.

After cooling, the mold is carefully removed, and the statue is hand-finished through engraving, polishing, gold plating, stone setting, and detailed painting. This time-honored technique allows artisans to capture remarkable detail while preserving the rich artistic heritage of Nepal.
