Farcroft Restorations is looking for experienced Heritage Carpenters / Architectural Joiners to join a major restoration project in Wiltshire.
This is an excellent 12-month opportunity for skilled craftspeople with experience working on historic, listed or architecturally significant buildings. Both employed and self-employed applicants will be considered, with an immediate start available.
Established in 1968, Farcroft Restorations is one of the UK’s leading building and contents restoration specialists. Its skilled teams work on some of the country’s finest buildings, carefully preserving and restoring them to exacting standards.
Role Overview
You will work as part of an experienced site team, carrying out high-quality heritage carpentry and architectural joinery on a significant restoration project.
The work requires accuracy, patience and a genuine understanding of traditional craftsmanship. You must be confident working with existing building fabric and completing repairs and new joinery that remain sympathetic to the character of the property.
Your duties will include:
Carrying out heritage carpentry and architectural joineryRepairing, restoring and replacing historic timber featuresProducing and fitting bespoke timber componentsWorking on doors, windows, frames, panelling and other architectural featuresUsing traditional joinery techniques and appropriate modern methodsWorking accurately from drawings, specifications and site instructionsMatching existing profiles, details, materials and finishesAssessing whether historic timber can be repaired rather than replacedUsing hand tools and woodworking equipment safely and effectivelyEnsuring all work is completed to an exceptionally high standardWorking closely with site managers, other trades and conservation specialistsFollowing all site health and safety proceduresMaintaining a clean, organised and professional working environment
About You
We are looking for highly skilled and dependable craftspeople who take genuine pride in their work.
You will understand the care and attention required when working on historic buildings and be able to produce consistently high-quality work while meeting agreed project timescales.
Skills and Experience Required
Proven experience as a Heritage Carpenter, Architectural Joiner or skilled Site JoinerPrevious experience working on historic, listed or high-specification buildingsStrong knowledge of traditional carpentry and joinery techniquesExperience repairing and replicating period timber featuresAble to interpret drawings, specifications and detailed measurementsConfident using relevant hand tools and woodworking equipmentExcellent attention to detail and a high standard of workmanshipAble to work independently and as part of a site teamReliable, professional and committed to the full contractAvailable to begin work immediately or at short noticeA valid CSCS card is essentialAsbestos Awareness and Manual Handling certification is required; these courses can be completed online before starting
A relevant City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent trade qualification would be beneficial
