Youth Worker

Pay: £12.60 per hour – pay scale dependent on experience

Location: Youth Centre in Berkhamsted and local area

Hours: Monday to Friday, covering core hours of 3.30pm – 6.15pm during term time, totalling 13.75 hours per week

Get Staffed are recruiting for our client who is seeking a passionate Youth Worker to join their team in Berkhamsted.

About Our Client

Our client is a Berkhamsted-based registered charity offering 11-16+ year olds from Berkhamsted and the surrounding area a safe and secure recreational facility where they can relax and socialise away from the stresses of school or home life. They provide a daily drop-in facility with organised activities, holiday programmes, workshops, music gigs and so much more.

Their centre is well equipped with a DJ booth, pool table, table football, Internet room, chill-out room, Wii & Xbox, coffee bar and a fully equipped band practice room. They offer a free snack and hot drink to all members (some of whom may not have eaten all day).

The Role

Do you believe that young people should have Somewhere to Go, Something to Do, and Someone to Listen after school? Do you want to inspire, motivate and guide young people to navigate the challenges they may face in today's world?

Key Responsibilities:

1. Running daily sessions both in the centre and offsite activities/trips

2. Assist with the planning and set up of specific activities

3. Engage and build positive relationships with young people, responding appropriately to challenging situations

4. Create a calm and safe environment for both the young people and the staff

5. Take on a share of activities required for smooth running of the centre, including social media channels, fundraising, and timely completion of required centre checks

About You:

Ideally, you will have some experience working with young people through volunteer work, youth coaching, or formal qualifications. Full training will be provided. Most importantly, our client needs someone who:

Brings passion for working with young people and genuine interest in their personal development and well-being
Has excellent pastoral skills including active listening, empathy, and building rapport
Can remain calm and composed in challenging situations
Is flexible with ability to juggle multiple tasks and adapt in an ever-changing environment
Is a team player contributing to sessions and programmes
Is resilient with a positive mindset
