Offered here is this Autobarn Gecko – Mini Moke ‘look-a-like’ first registered in 1986.

One of the nicest (in my opinion) of the Mini Moke style copies produced as ‘kits’ utilising Mini running gear, examples of others include the Scamp, Nomad, Hustler and the Stimson Mini Bug.

Originally manufactured by Autobarn Fabrications of Tamworth, Staffordshire it is thought that some 88 vehicle/kits were produced.

Being a vehicle comprising from components from other vehicles, as is often the case with ‘kit cars’, this Gecko is on a ‘Q plate’. It is registered on the V5c as a ‘MINIGECKO’, in my name and currently on SORN.

Features a well thought through and manufactured steel body frame chassis supplemented by steel, fibreglass, plywood and aluminium panels. There are some photocopied A4 pages from the original build documents included with the vehicle.

The Gecko has been further completed, updated and recommissioned, following a period of storage off the road, it now starts, drives and is presented in new white paintwork as shown in the images.

It is currently configured as a two seater with inertia seatbelts. A new owner may wish to consider options to add further seating in the rear should this be required. It is ‘open top’ motoring but there is evidence of a soft top having been fitted in the past, however there is no roof or doors in its current form.

It has a matching set of five ‘Minilite style’ 12” alloy wheels in very good condition and with decent tyres all-round.

A new Superwinch 3000lb 12v winch is installed in a purpose built winch-plate behind the front beams, the wire cable exiting via a roller fairlead beneath the front number plate and a cable directional switch controlled from the dash.

In comparison with a Cagiva Portugese ‘Moke’ - the bodywork is approximately 270 cm long (Moke approximately 282cm long) and is 139cm wide (Moke 145cm wide) so marginally smaller than the Moke.

Unlike the Moke however, there are no significant ‘water traps’ in the design, steelwork is all sound fibreglass hinged bonnet is in good condition, is easily removed to provide good access and is secured down by racing style bonnet pins at the front.

The engine/transmission and running gear is standard 998cc Mini, it starts well and previous owner indicated it also performed well on the road.

Available from my collection of various Mokes, Classic Minis and Series Land Rovers – It will also become VED and MOT exempt in a couple of years subject to meeting DVLA criteria – check this out for yourself on the DVLA website.

Conditions of Sale

The V5c will be completed at point of sale and I will process the change of owner details via DVLA 'on-line' - the V5c returning directly from DVLA to the new keeper, usually within a few days.
