Description
Up for sale, my much loved VW crafter camper conversion. Reluctant sale due to a change in life circumstances
Purchased in 2020 as an approved used van from VW.
The van has been an ongoing transformation, with some items only recently added, the idea was a comfortable bed and loads of gear storage space for adventures.
The mattress and supports are designed to come out, with only 4 bolts to remove, this allows the van to be used as a van and allows you to load it up within, I've got a motorbike in there in the past(you're welcome to a ramp with the purchase!)
I have full service history since purchase, with all service intervals met, MOT till June 2027. 2xkeys.
Just passed MOT with a few advisories- covering over the break pipes-anti-corrosion(advised every year, but not corroding at all! A little pitting in the front brakes, most likely as the van hasn't been used much, play in a slight play in front track rod end ball joint, Slight perishing in a rear tyre. All simple fixes. Tyres are all season and mostly have a good bit of wear left in them.
It got some TLC last August when i got 'bullet liner' around the bottom of the panels, looking smart and serving to help protect the paintwork, there are a couple of minor knocks on the bodywork, but nothing to cause concern. The underside was coated at the time with an anti-corrosion treatment. The steel wheel were also sandblasted and painted(I have a second set that are available separately). Heko wind deflectors allow extra ventilation without risking security
The conversion:
From the outside, side opening tinted windows on the door and opposite panel from van pimps, with integrated thermal black out curtains on the inside.
Flettner low profile roof vent fitted for additional ventilation.
Internally, the van was fully stripped out, cleaned and any imperfections in the paint treated and the floor coated. The bulkhead was removed. The van is insulated using products from sound deadening shop- Dodo deadening mats on each panel, dodo thermal liner with vapour barrier throughout, along with additional liner sheets in the voids.
The van was ply lined throughout over the top of the insulation, with the original van floor lining replaced, this was then covered with 'coin' style rubber lining throughout the van to ensure it was robust and easily cleanable.
The living areas of the van are lined with anthracite 4 way stretch carpet lining, this includes most of the units.
The electrical system was originally purchased from simply split charge, a CTEK D250SE battery to battery charger coming off the vehicle starter battery and through an isolator and fuses, this then powers a 12v 110ah xtreme AGM battery placed under the passenger seat. The leisure electrics then run through a fuse panel and 8 gang switch unit, with switches for lighting, heater, fridge, water pump, etc.
There are 4 LED lights in the 'living area', with a further two over the worktop and there are two switched LED spotlights under the bed, with LED reading lights in USB sockets either side of the back door. There are 12v and USB sockets throughout the van. The van is also set up for mains electrics, with a cable input under the rear bumper, this feeds into a switched RCD unit under the bed, powering a double 3 pin mains socket behind the drivers seat. I've further added 3x 100w renogy solar panels to the van, for more off-grid power, these go to a renogy rover 40ah MPPT charge controller, which is connected to a bluetooth monitoring system, this then powers the leisure battery. (I was planning to upgrade the battery and have 2x renogy 300ah lithium batteries which i will sell seperately (still in box, with bluetooth controller and battery to battery cables).
The living area is maximised by the use of an R&J campers unit which spins the passenger bench seat round to face into the van. The is the over cab storage locker, which gives a huge amount of luggage space, as well as mounting the switch panel, there is a second storage unit above the side window, which is great for kitchen items. Below this is a work surface with a Smev 8821 sink and hob unit mounted within. The sink is linked up to a cold water supply container in a 40l aqua roll, mounted by the rear door, with the waste going to a 42l wastemaster unit, in the same place, for easy access. Cooking on the hob is via a camping gas canister stored in a gas locker under the unit. This is a sealed unit and there are drop out vents beneath in the event that gas leaks when fitting the canister. Also under this is a brand new, recently installed AAOBOSI 65l 12v fridge, it is up and running, but never been used, still has the protective tape on, so you can enjoy the first cold beverage out of it.
The surround for this has just been added and is as yet unprepared, so you can put your colour of choice onto this. There is a drawer and cupboard with the unit as well. There is more storage around this area, with luggage nets and two large drawers under the bed- the top one is for storage, the lower one has been used to store the included Thetford 165 porta potti. There are also doors here which allow access under the bed, with all the storage space.
The bed is made up of a king-size memory foam mattress, which has been incased in waterproof covers on either side since purchase, this is accessed using a step in front of the top drawer. There is storage down the side of the bed and cargo nets hanging for bits and pieces. The is a shaped shelf at the back which stops bits falling down the curve and allows you to look out over vistas with the back doors open.
The van is heated by a 12v 5kw chinese diesel heater, with its own diesel tank by the rear door, this probably needs a service- a service kit is provided! This has 4 output vents, 2 into the living area and 2 under the bed. The air intake and exhaust for this are under the van, control is either via the control panel, which is in the cab or via a basic remote control.
The underbed storage area is a huge space, with access to allow multiple bikes and other gear in, longer items such as paddleboards can go through into the living area by leaving the access doors open. You can even have someone stay down there!
I have installed a wildearth canopy rail along the van above the side door, with one of there sun canopies included, this just slides in and is then held up with poles and guy lines. There are internal, made to measure thermal/sunblinds for the cab windows, these attach using suckers. This along with two internal black out curtains provide privacy and all the darkness to get a good nights sleep.
I'm sure there are many additional features that i have forgotten to mention, it's definitely worth a viewing and i can talk you through the different additions. The van has been a labour of love since I have had it and been well cared for, with continual additions and performance improvements, i am at the point where the need to change different bits to make the van how i want it will cost lots, take up all the time and energy i don't have and result in no additional value in the event of a later sale, so instead i hope to find it a new home.
The price is based on other equivalent vans out there and is still less than i have spent on it. I would listen to reasonable offers, but I am in no rush to sell it, i'm happy to show you around it and talk about the conversion, you're more than welcome to take it for a test drive with me, but you would need to arrange temporary insurance.
Get in touch with any questions, i'll respond when i can and i'd be happy to talk vans! More images and potentially a video to come.
Thanks for taking the time to read through, if my van isn't for you, all the best with your search!
