Volkswagen T3 Westfalia Joker – Genuine 2.1 DJ Automatic

After 10 fantastic years of ownership, it’s time to find a new home for my much-loved Volkswagen T3 Westfalia Joker.

This is a genuine Westfalia Joker fitted with the original 2.1 DJ petrol engine and the desirable automatic gearbox, making it a smooth, relaxed and enjoyable camper to drive. A rare and very usable classic that is ready for many more adventures.

The van starts first time, drives beautifully and has never let me down. It has always been maintained properly, with servicing and repairs carried out when needed using genuine quality parts, including parts sourced from Brickwerks.

The automatic gearbox was professionally serviced last year with fresh oil and new seals. At last year’s MOT, the van received new heavy-duty front ball joints, new bushes and other essential maintenance items, which made a noticeable improvement to the way it drives.

This year, the van sailed through its MOT with just one advisory for light surface corrosion on a brake pipe. This is a common age-related advisory on classic vehicles and an easy repair if the new owner wishes to address it.

Inside, the camper is complete and in very good condition. Around 10 years ago, I removed the original fridge and replaced it with a practical storage shelf, but I still have the original fridge should the next owner wish to return it to the original Westfalia layout. Everything else is present and keeps that classic Westfalia character.

The van had a full body restoration when I bought it around 10 years ago. After a decade of use, some of the usual T3 rust areas are beginning to show again, which is perfectly normal for a 37-year-old classic vehicle. It will need some bodywork attention in the near future to keep it looking its best, but it remains a solid, reliable camper that is ready to be enjoyed straight away.

The only reason I am selling is that I don’t get to use the van as much as I used to, and the London ULEZ charges have unfortunately made ownership increasingly expensive. Otherwise, I would happily keep it.

This is an honest, genuine and well-maintained Westfalia that has been loved and enjoyed over the last 10 years. It’s not a concours show van, but a proper usable classic that you can jump into and enjoy immediately while improving it over time.
