Description

Selling my beloved ‘mermaid’ Hiace conversion which comes with:
- a double bed (I had a mattress topper on there)
- auxiliary battery with DC-DC charger on relay from starter/alternator and solar input, in a box I made with lots of USB, 12 socket and power out options and fuse board protection etc
- A 1000w sine wave inverter for 240v standard three pin power
- A removable solar panel unit. This gives plenty of charging, lighting potential when stationary
- 12v compressor fridge on runners
- A Bluetooth and USB radio head unit
- A sub woofer and rear speakers for fuller hifi
- Shelf storage with integrated LED light (the basket shelves not included)
- A large section of 60cm deep euro box drawer storage
- Large stow space under the bed
- An tarp style awning with poles that attaches to the roof rack
- Curtains front and back sewn by myself
- I can include a gas stove (but no bottle sorry)
- Can also include a portapotti cassette toilet and solar shower

Other good things -
- MOT till July 27
- Relatively low mileage 160k (cast iron engine block can famously go for 500k miles +)
- Just had full service of oil & filters
- Just had the usual rusted rear wheel arches rust treated and welded over with new panels and bumpers reattached
- Has a roof rack and heavy duty tow bar, is a real work horse if not in camper mode
- Comes with a spare tyre (quite worn I think, but a spare wheel which is the main bit)

The bad things -
- Exterior bodywork has usual signs of age and some dubious decisions by previous owner to paint the bonnet black and then repaint over it, or something, and some less than perfect paint repairs, but all only aesthetic and in keeping with age really.
- Thrust bearing rattles when idling in neutral, goes away while in gear, not a mechanical issue
- Tyres not all that fresh but plenty of life
- A dent in side panel that could do with painting over or rust treatment
- Driver seat cushion is pretty badly worn, had this on my last one also. Could get a seat cover or maybe replace the bottom seat cushion from a breakers quite cheaply

I spent a couple of weeks travelling in this van over the summer and had a wonderful time. It’s obviously a step more adventurous than a bigger van but it has all the facilities and for largely fair weather travels, the awning and a couple of camping chairs and a folding table make the world your living room anyway.

They are as mechanically bombproof as they are said to be, I’ve had two and neither ever had any issues, just accrued the usual wear on tyres and bodywork etc with age.

Happy for people to come and look, no silly offers though. These are sought after, incredibly reliable workhorse vans that don’t go wrong and are easily fixed if they do, no endless sensors to go wrong.
