Description

The Hoff - handbuilt 2-berth Transit with a 3m surfboard garage

2012 Ford Transit 280 SWB campervan. Handbuilt conversion, 2 berths, 3 belted seats, six-speed manual, 2.2 TDCi, around 35mpg.

We've had some of our best trips in this van, and we're only selling because our family has outgrown it.

MECHANICAL HISTORY, all invoiced. The engine was replaced with a reconditioned unit at 105,495 miles in September 2022, with four new injectors fitted the same week. The gearbox was reconditioned and the clutch and flywheel replaced in 2025. Full service 2025. MOT to 15 February 2027, with subframe mount welding done at that test. New Bosch battery August 2026. DVSA mileage records from 2018 onwards available. Around 133,000 miles.

THE BUILD. It was converted by an engineer who did the build himself. He treated and repainted the floor, insulated with Kingspan and earthwool, fitted a full aluminium vapour barrier, then clad the inside in wood. Chris Scutt Conversions extended the bed, fitted the passenger swivel seat and midge nets and tidied the electrics in 2023. K.ustom Bespoke Conversions did further interior work in October 2024. Since then we've added the slot-in table, LED lighting under the cupboards, bungee netting in the under-bed bay and a few extra storage nooks.

SLEEPING. A 135cm-wide double running lengthways, with your head towards the rear doors - open them in the morning and whatever you've parked up in front of is the view. The bed extends for two, or you can sleep widthways if you're travelling solo.

LIVING. Overhead lockers down one side and across the bulkhead, curtains throughout, and wire baskets for herbs, spices and the bits and bobs you want within reach. The kitchen runs opposite the sliding door: two-ring hob, sink, gas and water, and plenty of room for food. Compressor fridge. Portable toilet. Midge nets on the windows and the sliding door, so you can leave it all open on a warm evening. The table slots in by the swivel seat - we've had five people eating inside, two on the swivel seats and the rest on stools.

ELECTRICS, done properly. Novopal 1,500W pure-sine inverter, 2x 120Ah AGM leisure batteries, 160W solar with a Victron MPPT controller and a split-charge relay, so it holds its own off-grid. Two 240v sockets. USB sockets. 5kW diesel heater. Cab air conditioning, serviced and regassed June 2026. Reverse sensors, DAB and audio inputs, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

STORAGE is what we'll miss most. The under-bed bay loads from the back doors AND from the kitchen and living area, and it still leaves generous circulation space inside. Bungee netting holds wetsuits, snorkel gear and van kit out of the way. Because the bay runs right through, long items go straight in without dismantling anything. Two roof rails on top take the longer, bulkier things - surfboards and the like.

WHY WE'RE SELLING: we've had a baby. It still works, but it's tight with three, and it would suit a couple starting out on their own van adventures far better than it suits us now.

ONE THING TO KNOW: in June 2023 a scaffold lorry caught the side while the van was parked. One rear panel, cosmetic. The insurer valued the van as a bare panel van rather than a camper, so the repair crossed their write-off line and it was recorded Category N. Repaired by G&D Smart Repairs. Happy to show the photos and paperwork.

INCLUDED, everything you need to take it away and go:
Kitchen - Alpicool compressor fridge, fitted gas bottle, kettle, mugs, cutlery, utensils and kitchenware
Sleeping - mattress and bedding
Fitted - insulated front window blinds, curtains, LED lighting, midge nets, slot-in table, bungee netting, seat covers, water containers, portable toilet
Outside - external folding table, camping chairs, extendable ladder, external powered shower, drying rack, levelling chocks

THE AWNING in the photos is an Outdoor Revolution Cayman DT, used once - too big for us. If it hasn't already sold we're happy to do a discounted price with the van. Just ask.

£9,995 ono. Bristol. Viewing welcome, and happy to do a video call if you can't travel.

We've loved every moment in it and hope you do too.
