Description

We are looking for a practical, reliable and enthusiastic Maintenance Trainee to join our small team working on boats, docks and properties across London and the River Thames.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, wants to learn different trades and is interested in developing a long-term career in property and marine maintenance.

You do not need to be a qualified tradesperson. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, a willingness to learn and pride in doing a good job.

Your Duties Will Include

Working alongside experienced team members, you will receive training in:

General property maintenance: Basic plumbing, carpentry, joinery and repairs.

Painting and decorating: Preparation, painting, plastering, patching and making good.

Repairs and installations: Tiling, sealant work, flooring, doors, locks, fittings and furniture assembly.

Boat and dock maintenance: Checking mooring ropes, fenders, gangways, decks, hulls and bilges.

Marine facilities: Assisting with water and waste connections and learning how to work safely around the Thames tides.

Basic technical checks: Helping install, inspect and maintain monitoring equipment, sensors and meters under supervision.

Reporting: Taking photographs of completed work, recording faults and keeping clear maintenance updates.

All work will be carried out with appropriate supervision and training. Specialist tasks will be handled by qualified professionals.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will be:

Practical, hardworking and keen to learn new skills.

Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a small team.

Comfortable working outdoors, around boats and near water.

Willing to travel between different sites across London.

Able to follow instructions and work safely.

Comfortable using a smartphone to take photographs and provide work updates.

Demonstratable interest in maintenance, engineering, construction or practical problem-solving.

Previous experience in DIY, property maintenance, construction, engineering or assembling and repairing things would be helpful.

We welcome applications from school leavers and people looking for a career change.

What We Offer

£28,000 starting annual salary

Full-time, permanent employment

40-hour working week

Practical, hands-on training from experienced tradespeople and river professionals

Water safety and relevant job-specific training

Tools, equipment and PPE provided

Varied work across boats, docks and London properties

Opportunity to learn several trades

Career progression to Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative and potentially Marine Maintenance Technician

How to Apply

Please send us your CV and a short message explaining why you are interested in practical maintenance work on boats and buildings.

Alternatively, you can include a few photographs of something you have repaired, built or maintained, including personal DIY projects.

No previous marine experience is required. We value reliability, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

We look forward to hearing from you.
