For newcomers, you plug it into you computer and it plays MIDI data into your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)—Ableton, LOGIC, CUBASE etc. one track at a time. MIDI data such as sustain volume, modulation etc. is controllable live or you can edit them in the DAW, or use the keyboard to play the sounds live e.g. at a gig. They keys are semi-weighted, so not as heavy as a piano, but they are touch sensitive, so the harder you play, the louder the sound.

Please note it has no sounds/speakers built in. So not appropriate for children unable to connect it to a computer.
