The turning of the key is the opposite to what you’d imagine to lock and unlock
perhaps how the maker positioned it
I think it’s quirky
lock is anti clockwise and unlock clockwise
nice old key

i cannot guarantee its origin or age as i myself bought it from old many years ago

it is as it is when i bought it
lovely original wear
the initials are striking in black on the lid

From what i have seen out there it is very similar to other authentic military chests
I believe it to be pine with metal strengthening plates around it that i believe to have been added when originally made as they feel match the handles look age feel

An old item so lots of wear
marks etc the only part of it that feels bothersome is a scratch to the lid
its very shallow and has happened in the last 3 years
someone with some dark furniture polish could touch up im sure can disguise it very well
then a wax over the top

There is also various areas where a layer of pine has come adrift from the corners of the lid but this has been like that for many many years and was like it when i bought it. I personally like them..all wear consistent with age

Its a solid item in all other respects
