Description
this is a beautiful and rare japanese shakudo brooch likely dating to the late meiji period or early 20th century. Shakudo is a traditional Japanese metalworking technique involving an alloy of copper and gold, often treated ro develop a rich dark patina. it was commonly used in sword fittings, jewelry, and export items.
the front detailing may possibly contain gold accents or inlay, as is common with traditional shakudo work. but this has not been tested so I cannot confirm the gold content.
this brooch features
intricate mixed metal inlay design with a traditional Japanese motif ( see pictures)
solid silver mount no hallmarks i can see but I had the silver tested just didnt get front tested at the time.
rich dark shakudo surface with subtle decorative highlights .
the front detail is beautiful and possibly could contain gold accents or inlay as common with shakudo work.
the pin itself has come off but its nothing major.
approx size 2.1.cm
weighs 7 grams .
condition is very good with minimal wear considering its age. the patina is well preserved and the detail remains sharp.
a rare collector's piece or elegant addition to any antique jewlery collection.
provenance private family collection uk.
similar brooches from this period and style have been highly valued by collector's due to their craftsmanship and historical significance.
