Description
For sale as a complete set of three original, high-ranking post-war prize plaques awarded at prestigious French and cross-border agricultural competitions for the Trait du Nord heavy draft horse breed – one of the most important French/Belgian working horse bloodlines of the 20th century.
The set comprises:
Plaque d’Honneur + 1er Prix
Foire Agricole d’Hazebrouck (c. 1955–1958)
Poulains/Pouliches 30 mois – Race Trait du Nord
The highest possible award given at this major regional fair – extremely rare.
1er Prix
Syndicat Hippique & Trait Audomarois – Concours Régional Lisieux 1950
Pouliches de 2 ans
Very scarce early post-war cross-border prize from Normandy.
4e Prix
Foire Agricole d’Hazebrouck – 22 Juillet 1957
Juments non suitée – Race Trait du Nord
Excellent complementary prize from the same prestigious fair, dated and in fine order.
All three are cast bronze (or high-quality brass) with original red enamel infill and raised lettering/borders. They display honest age-related patina with no cracks, repairs, or significant enamel loss – entirely original and as awarded over 65–75 years ago. Each retains its hanging loop and measures approx. 14–16 cm.
A superb, ready-made collection for enthusiasts of Trait du Nord horses, French agricultural history, vintage equestrian trophies, or mid-century industrial/brocante décor. Sets of this quality and completeness rarely appear on the UK market.
Offered strictly as a lot of three – will not separate.
Private UK seller (East Anglia) – carefully packed, fully tracked & signed postage included in the price, or collection welcome.
Price for the complete set of three: £500
(Serious offers very close to asking will be considered – priced for a straightforward sale)
Additional close-up photographs gladly sent on request. Thank you for looking.
