Description
This is a beautiful antique ecclesiastical pedestal banner, featuring the official emblem and Latin motto of the Church of Scotland. Visual and Symbolic Details: The Burning Bush: The central embroidery portrays the burning bush encountered by Moses in the Book of Exodus. It has served as the distinctive symbol of the Church of Scotland since 1691. The Motto: The Latin inscription written along the oval perimeter is an variation of "Nec Tamen Consumebatur", which translates to "Yet it was not consumed". This phrase symbolizes the enduring nature of the Church, surviving through trials and persecution.
Crafted from deep blue velvet with a classic gold fringe trim, a textile like this is draped over church furniture such as the pulpit, lectern, or Communion table—during Presbyterian worship services.
Came from St Andrews Church in Falkirk. A beautiful piece and wonderful on display. Colour and embroidery is fantastic.
A one off piece of history.
