Carved Painted Wooden Coffer Chest – Ornate Serpents & Floral Decoration

Description

A distinctive and decorative wooden coffer featuring an elaborate raised-carved front with colourful polychrome decoration.
The central panel showcases intricate scrolling foliage in deep green, red and gold tones, framed by unusual mythical-creature motifs, including beautifully detailed winged birds and a pair of long, serpentine figures. The heart-shaped keyhole plate and contrasting dark timber frame add further character to this striking piece.
The chest has a hinged, close-fitting lid, a plain wooden interior and decorative metal carrying handles to the sides. The dovetailed corner joints demonstrate traditional box construction.
An unusual piece with plenty of visual character, ideal for collectors of decorative furniture, folk art or unusual interiors. It could also be used as a keepsake box or for storing smaller household items.
