Antique Wooden Desk with Green Leather Top and Brass Handles

Description

Attractive vintage English Regency Revival writing / sofa table with a traditional green leather writing surface, drop-leaf ends and two drawers.

The table has a dark reddish-brown mahogany appearance, with decorative veneered drawer fronts, fine stringing, turned and carved supports, stretcher base and brass paw-style castors. The drawers have decorative brass handles, and the folding leaf hardware includes a hinge stamped “TCNS England.”

The green leather top has gilt-tooled borders and gives the table a lovely traditional English country-house look.

The two drop leaves can be raised to provide a much larger working surface, making this suitable as a writing desk, occasional table, sofa table or decorative side table.

Condition:
This is an older piece and is being sold in used, unrestored condition.

There is considerable age-related wear, including:

Wear, scratches and marks to the green leather
Fading and staining to the leather
Loss and wear to the polish/finish around the edges
Various scratches, knocks and marks to the wood
General wear consistent with age and use
Despite the wear, the table retains a great deal of character and would look particularly good in a traditional, period or eclectic interior. It could either be enjoyed as it is, with its aged patina, or professionally restored if desired.

The drawers, folding leaves and castors are all present.

Approximate age:
Believed to be early-to-mid 20th century, in the Regency Revival style. Exact date and maker are unknown.
