Description
A Lines Brothers Sportiboy, circa 1920s. A recently restored dappled rocking horses that measures: Height 36” (92cm) from floor to ears. The safety stand is original and measures 60” (152cm) by 20” (50cm). The horse retains the original glass eyes. The leather saddle/tack, horsehair mane and tail are recent additions. The original ‘Bowler Hats’ sit on the top of the stand to cover the column spigots and the ends of the swing irons.
Lines Brothers was the most popular of 1920s rocking horse makers. The family company had grown out of one of the original Victorian rocking horse makers, G&J Lines, and was later to become the well-known toy maker, Triang. The Sportiboy has stood the test of time and remains a very popular rocking horse amongst owners and riders alike! The horse would be a lovely addition for a collector or equally a perfect toy for a new young rider.
