Description

ANTIQUE FRENCH CAST IRON FRUIT PRESS, GRAPE OLIVE CHEESE DUCK PRESS, 33-41cm tall - 1900s FRENCH KITCHENALIA

WILL POST - I can post this for £7.99 if paid for by bank transfer (Note - we only accept payment in cash on collection or by bank transfer if delivery agreed - no PayPal, card, or courier payment).

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

We got from a vide maison at Guise in the Aisne region and have used it as a decorative kitchenalia item however this press is from the early 1900s and would probably have been used on a worktop to press fruit.
They were also used to press olives, grapes, cheese and even cooked duck bones to squeeze out the jus…

Now worn and a little wonky but sound, this still works with the screw opening and closing and the draining reservoirs still intact so I presume this could still be used as intended or equally as a great decorative piece of French kitchenalia.

In good antique working condition with wear, staining and knocks - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
The cast iron surfaces are painted black and are worn but in sound condition.
The cast iron handle and screw is in good condition and works, opening and closing as it should.
NOTE: The upper part of the iron screw thread towards the handle has bent over the years and is crooked however it still opens and closes easily and smoothly - see photos.
The circular press plate is worn but sound, secure and closes firmly.
The metal cylindrical draining reservoirs, one with drainage holes and one with a spout, are worn and tarnished but sound and intact - see photos.
The spout is dented and bent but still clear - see photos.
The legs are secure and screwed securely to a thick wooden base.
The wooden base appears to be a hardwood that is worn but sound.
No sign of active woodworm.
There are four small legs screwed to the base that can be turned but are secure.
I can find no maker’s mark.

Measures approximately:
41 cm tall when open fully (including base),
33 cm tall when closed,
16 cm handle span,
8.5 & 10 cm diameter to the draining reservoirs,
17 cm long at it’s longest leg point,
13 cm wide,
Weighs about 4.2 kg.
