Description
Antique hand carved stone Chinese guardian temple lion (“Foo Dog”). Exquisite detail, carved from one piece of stone. The lion has a carved ball in its mouth.
A ball in their mouth, often called a sacred pearl or tama, is usually carved so it can roll freely within the mouth but cannot be removed, a testament to the sculptor's skill. This ball represents Buddhist Wisdom, the Sacred Syllable "Om" and protection against Spiritual Threats. 9 inches tall, 6 inches deep and 4 inches wide. Cash on collection at Poole.
