Description

Search are supporting the recruitment of a Payroll Business Partner to join the finance function of a respected charitable organisation in Edinburgh. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to take ownership of payroll operations, lead a small team, and play a key role in delivering a high quality payroll service to both employees and supported customers.

About the Role

As Payroll Business Partner, you'll be responsible for managing payroll staff, ensuring accurate processing of all payroll cycles, and maintaining compliance with statutory requirements. You'll oversee payroll systems, reporting, and reconciliations, while providing expert guidance on PAYE, NI, auto enrolment and wider payroll legislation. This is a varied and impactful role where attention to detail, leadership and stakeholder communication are integral.

Key Responsibilities:

Line manage and support Payroll Officers

Oversee end to end payroll processing

Review calculated salaries, statutory payments, back pay and adjustments

Produce mid-month and final payroll reports for review by senior managers

Upload approved BACS files and ensure timely payment processing

Arrange payments for HMRC and pension liabilities

Produce month end payroll reconciliations and investigate anomalies

Provide advice and guidance to managers, customers and stakeholders

Liaise with HMRC and statutory bodies where required

Produce statutory documentation (P45s, P60s, payslips etc.)

Prepare annual statutory returns, including P11Ds and Class 1A NI

Lead on year end payroll processes and system updates

Work with software providers on system updates and testing

Maintain payroll system configuration and ensure compliance with legislation

Update payroll policies, procedures, templates and guidance

Deliver payroll training sessions to staff and customers

Skills and experience you'll ideally have:

Strong experience in payroll management or senior payroll roles

Knowledge of PAYE, NI, auto enrolment and statutory payroll processes

Confident reviewing complex payroll calculations and identifying anomalies

Experience liaising with HMRC and external bodies

Strong leadership and communication skills

Skilled in investigating issues and improving processes

Ability to manage multiple deadlines within a busy payroll cycle

Comfortable delivering training and supporting colleagues

What's in it for you:
