We're looking for a motivated and capable individual to join our team as a Management Accountant - Service Charges. Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, you'll help prepare and analyse management accounts, budgets and forecasts, while providing financial support and insight to budget holders, their teams and the wider business.

Working closely with colleagues across Finance, Financial Planning, Governance, Quality Assurance, Internal Audit and Technology, you'll help ensure strong financial control, accurate reporting and informed decision-making across the organisation.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Preparing monthly management accounts, forecasts and variance analysis for your areas of responsibility, providing clear financial insight to stakeholders.

• Supporting budget holders through budget setting and forecasting cycles, advising on key assumptions and financial performance.

• Reconciling balance sheet control accounts, investigating discrepancies and ensuring financial records remain accurate and up to date.

• Supporting internal and external audits, regulatory returns and maintaining effective financial controls and procedures.

• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and ways of working to enhance efficiency and customer outcomes.

You'll also contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing financial processes, supporting system enhancements and helping to drive efficiencies across the Finance team and wider business.

This role is based from Building 800, Sittingbourne, with hybrid working arrangements. You'll be expected to attend your main office at least two days per week, with occasional travel to other Southern Housing offices for stakeholder meetings.

About you

We're looking for someone who is analytical, proactive and customer-focused, and who enjoys problem-solving, building relationships and using financial information to support business decisions.

You'll bring:

• Relevant experience: Experience in financial reporting, management accounting, budgeting and forecasting. Knowledge of social housing and service charges would be advantageous.

• Skills and knowledge: Strong financial management knowledge, advanced Excel skills and experience using finance systems and reporting tools. Experience of TM1 budgeting and reporting software is desirable.

• Communication skills: Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and confidently to budget holders, managers and other stakeholders.

• Problem-solving ability: Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate variances, identify trends and recommend improvements.

• Organisation and prioritisation: Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines.

• Teamwork: A collaborative approach with the ability to build effective working relationships across departments and with external partners.

• Adaptability: Comfortable working in a changing environment and responding positively to evolving business needs.

• Qualifications: Professionally qualified in accounting (or equivalent) and educated to degree level, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.

You'll be part of the Finance Team, working together to provide accurate financial reporting, robust financial control and insightful business partnering support across Southern Housing. The team works closely with operational, corporate and leadership teams to support effective decision-making, deliver value for money and ensure the organisation remains financially strong and sustainable for our residents and communities
