Bookkeeper/VAT Specialist

Murray Recruitment are recruiting a Specialist Bookkeeper / VAT Specialist for our client based in South Lanarkshire.

Role Overview:

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established accountancy practice supporting a diverse client base across sectors including construction, hospitality, and retail. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality VAT and bookkeeping services with approximately 70% of the role focused on preparing and submitting VAT returns for clients, and the remaining time dedicated to general bookkeeping duties.

Key Responsibilities:

* Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with HMRC regulations (approx. 70% of role)

* Perform day-to-day bookkeeping duties for a range of clients

* Use accounting software including Xero, QuickBooks, and SAGE

* Liaise with clients to collect financial data and resolve any queries

* Ensure accurate and up-to-date financial records to support reporting

* Work closely with internal colleagues to maintain high standards of client service.

Skills & Experience:

* Strong experience in VAT return preparation and bookkeeping, ideally within an accountancy practice

* Proficiency in using Xero, QuickBooks, or SAGE

* Excellent understanding of VAT legislation and compliance requirements

* High attention to detail with solid numerical and analytical skills

* Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal

* Ability to manage multiple deadlines and client needs effectively
