What qualifications should a massage therapist in Aberdeen have?

When seeking massage services, ensure the therapist is qualified and insured. Look for certifications from recognised bodies such as the Complementary Therapists Association (CThA) or the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). Checking their qualifications helps ensure they are properly trained and adhere to professional standards.

What should I discuss with the massage therapist before the session?

Before your massage, discuss your medical history, any specific areas of pain or discomfort, and your desired pressure level with the therapist. This allows them to tailor the massage to your needs and avoid any potential contraindications. Be open and honest about any allergies or sensitivities you may have.

Are there any red flags to watch out for when choosing a massage service?

Be wary of massage services offered in inappropriate or unprofessional settings. A legitimate massage therapist will maintain a clean and hygienic environment and will prioritise your comfort and safety. If anything makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you have the right to end the session immediately.

What are my rights as a consumer when booking a massage service in the UK?

Under UK consumer law, you have the right to expect that the massage service will be provided with reasonable care and skill. If the service is not carried out to a satisfactory standard, you may be entitled to a partial or full refund. Keep records of your booking and any communication with the therapist.

What hygiene standards should I expect from a massage therapist in Aberdeen?

Massage therapists should maintain high hygiene standards, including washing their hands before and after each session, using clean towels and linens, and disinfecting surfaces. The treatment room should be clean and well-ventilated. If you have any concerns about hygiene, don't hesitate to raise them with the therapist.
