Description

Welcome to the sale of my fantastic Subaru Outback Rn 3.0 H6 4x4 - one of the most capable four-wheel-drive vehicles ever made, combining Subaru's legendary Symmetrical AWD with *that* 3.0 H6 boxer engine. This is a robust, "go-anywhere" vehicle with astonishing wet weather grip and blistering acceleration from the 6-cylinder 241bhp engine. You need to drive this vehicle to believe it - it's the only car I've ever driven where you can corner in the wet at the same speed as you can in the dry, in total safety.

With a raised ride height and a low centre of gravity - thanks to the low-slung boxer engine and Subaru's use of aluminium for the bonnet and boot lid - the Outback corners with the sort of prowess you'd never believe possible for a family estate car.

Unusually, this Outback is completely original and unmodified. It's exactly as it came out of the factory, with all original luxuries and specification.

The engine and gearbox are PERFECT on this car and have never given me a moment's trouble. You can expect exceptionally smooth, linear performance from this car, with tons of power. In fact everything mechanically-speaking has been perfect and the car has been totally dependable in every respect. It always starts first time, with no smoke from the engine - and it never burns any oil. The engine is always quiet & smooth and offers absolutely effortless performance at all times. This isn't a particularly heavy car, so it feels remarkably lightweight and agile. I have all the service history from new and the original owner's manual and book pack, along with the current V5.

As you can see from the photos, the bodywork is unusually good for a 21-year-old Subaru Outback; not perfect, obviously, with noticeable marks to the lip of rear bumper where items have been loaded into the boot and one alloy wheel which has decided to corrode where the other three still look great (all are still painted in their original "mirror" finish) and slight damage to the plastic strip on the rear tailgate, but overall it's a lovely looking car with a surprising lack of damage.

The interior is such a great place to be, with the most comfortable seats you'll encounter - full cream leather throughout with four-stage heated seats, along with cruise control, seamless automatic transmission (gears can be changed manually using the selector in sport mode, if preferred), a lovely big electric sunroof, air conditioning, split-fold rear seats, remote central locking with alarm and immobiliser and four electric windows. The excellent stereo includes an in-dash 6 CD multi-changer and a cassette player, which I use all the time. Crucially of course, being the Rn model, it's fitted with the amazing touch screen satellite navigation and trip computer - this is essential in one of these.

With a cavernous boot and a super robust interior, this car is ideal as a family workhorse, for farm use, or for off roading, if you wish. It is conveniently fitted with a tow bar, which I've never used. The previous lady owner often used the car for shooting parties in Scotland, so the interior could do with a thorough clean, particularly the carpets and rear seats, as the interior has probably seen some of the finest Scottish mud over the years. I bought this car last Autumn, ready for winter driving and it was the best decision I ever made - it doesn't matter how treacherous driving conditions become in winter weather; this car just shrugs it off. I refer to it as the best life insurance policy you could ever buy. Subaru took crash protection very seriously and it's a tough car with excellent occupant safety ratings and air bags galore.

So why is this excellent car £699 and not £5,000? Well, the rear subframe has corroded through and will need welding underneath before an MoT. Having spoken with a Subaru mechanic, this is actually a very common issue with these cars and one which can take hold quickly once corrosion of the subframe has begun. Corrosion was noted on both sides of the rear subframe at the last MoT 5,000 miles ago in June 2024. Fortunately rear subframes are still available brand new from Subaru at very reasonable cost. The MoT lapsed at the end of June and the car has been stored in my garage ever since - a new acquisition has meant I now need the garage space back, so I'm reluctantly offering the car for a song as a perfect project for someone who enjoys welding. I believe this car has years of life left in it once this is done. It still runs and drives to a degree but is not roadworthy, so collection via a trailer is necessary. I can recommend AnyVan if you'd like someone to collect it for you and am happy to help facilitate this. I have priced this car for a fraction of what I could break it for - the H6 engine alone is worth more than my asking price, seeing it's in perfect working order.

Viewings are welcome in Chichester, West Sussex, next to Goodwood.
