2.5L 174 tdi gear-driven engine has proven virtually indestructible over the 9 yrs I have owned it – possibly the best engine VW put into the Transporters. The turbo was replaced within the first 2 yrs of my owning it and the head was rebuilt 2 yrs ago and new cam and tappet covers installed along with a new flexible manifold gasket. It passed its MoT in early March and had a major service as well. Mechanically sound.

This has primarily been my work van and as such, I have prioritised the mechanical repairs over the cosmetic ones. It runs well and changes gears smoothly. On the motorway, it sits comfortably at 70mph and easily ramps up to 80mph to overtake quickly and safely. It is a Kombi, meaning it has a row of seating in the middle with dual sliding door access, so no matter which side of the road you pull up on, passengers can safely exit away from traffic. It has a hatch-back rear door allowing you to access the rear without getting wet when it is raining or you need shade. It is rather hard to find a 2.5L van with dual sliding doors and tailgate combination these days.

In addition to being my primary work vehicle, my family and I have used it to go on our camping holidays. As seen in the picture of the open rear, I have built a storage box (currently tools and materials) with a supported frame, allowing additional access/storage of tools (or luggage) without having to remove everything from the van to find what you need. The upper area has been created level with the storage box to allow for tools/materials separation and used when camping to support a futon mattress for sleeping on. I have extended the sleeping area with an additional section of construction that slots in once the middle row of seats have been folded down and the single tilted forward. At 6'1", even I have ample space and room to fully stretch out on the bed. I also have purchased and used the 'Easycamp Crowford Tailgate Awning Tent for VW T5/T6' which will be provided, along with anything else that I have purchased/built specifically for the vehicle. Has long MoT (March ‘26), DAB radio, DVD player, reversing camera, 18” Alloys, 2 keys.

This van would suit:
• Someone who needs a solid, hard-working van for work and needs to NOT be paying CAZ charges;
• Climbers/campers looking to sleep in the back and carry their equipment or;
• Someone who has the time to bring the bodywork back to a clean Kombi for camping or conversion.
