Description

HGV Waste Collection Driver

Location: Argyll Road, Preston, PR1 6JY

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Duration: 3+ Months

Working Hours: Mon Fri, 09 00, 37 Hours per week

Pay Rate: GBP 14.41 per hour

Responsibilities Drive heavy goods vehicles for refuse collection and recycling, including skip loaders. Supervise a team of labourers and other drivers during operations. Operate both automatic and manual refuse collection and recycling equipment. Move and empty wheeled bins, food waste caddies, and refuse sacks in all weather conditions. Provide domestic, food, bulky item, and trade waste collection services. Efficiently collect, sort, and load various recyclable items such as newspapers, magazines, glass, cans, and textiles. Distribute leaflets and deliver wheeled bins, storage boxes, and sacks to households. Maintain high levels of productivity and engage with the public in a professional and courteous manner. Work overtime as needed to complete collection rounds. Promote the service actively, including communication with householders. Assist with additional cleansing duties and transfer station tasks when necessary. Utilize in–cab technology effectively. Work on bank holidays, except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day, and continue until round completion. Ensure the cleanliness and appearance of vehicles and equipment are maintained to a high standard. Conduct daily driver safety checks on vehicles and report any defects to Fleet Management Services promptly. Adhere to health and safety legislation and regulations, including using reversing assistants. Comply with all relevant driving legislation, including the use of tachographs. Person Specification Strong driving skills with experience in operating heavy goods vehicles. Ability to supervise and lead a team effectively. Proficient in operating refuse collection and recycling equipment. Physically fit to handle manual tasks in varying weather conditions. Excellent communication skills for interacting with the public and promoting services. Flexible to work overtime and on bank holidays as required. Detail–oriented to maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform safety checks. Knowledgeable of health and safety regulations and driving legislation. Proficiency with in–cab technology and equipment.
