Trainee Teaching Assistant – Newport

Are you passionate about supporting young learners and eager to begin a meaningful career in education? This is a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team across schools in the Newport area. This role offers hands-on experience in alternative provision settings, supporting pupils with a range of needs including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, ADHD, and anxiety.

What You’ll Be Doing

Providing support in both classroom group settings and one-to-one interventions, focusing on helping pupils regulate emotions and develop positive behaviour

Creating a calm, inclusive space where learners feel safe, valued, and motivated to engage

Gaining first-hand experience working with pupils who have additional learning needs, particularly SEMH, ADHD, and anxiety

Assisting in the delivery of personalised strategies to promote behaviour, wellbeing, and academic success

Developing strong relationships with pupils, teachers, and families to ensure consistent, joined-up support

Helping pupils build communication skills, emotional literacy, and confidence in social situations

What We’re Looking For

A genuine interest in working with children and young people who need extra support

Someone who is patient, empathetic, and able to build trust with pupils

A positive and proactive approach, with a strong desire to make a lasting difference

Good communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a team

Commitment to developing a long-term career in SEND, inclusion, or alternative provision

Availability Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm (term-time only)

Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willing to register with our support
