Description

Teaching Assistant - Secondary SEMH School

Location: Oldham

Start Date: Tuesday 2nd September 2025

Contract Type: Temporary

Do you have the resilience, empathy, and passion to support young people facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges? Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a lasting impact on the lives of secondary-aged pupils?

A specialist SEMH secondary school in Oldham is looking for a dedicated and supportive Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school provides a nurturing and structured environment for pupils aged 11-16 who experience a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. Many students may have experienced trauma, disrupted education, or struggle to engage in mainstream settings.

About the Role:

Supporting students on a 1:1 or small group basis, both in and out of the classroom

Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviours

Assisting with the development and delivery of tailored learning and behavioural support plans

Working alongside teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to provide holistic support

We're Looking For:

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviours (education, youth work, or care background welcome)

Calm, consistent, and confident approach to behaviour management

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

A nurturing, non-judgmental attitude and the ability to act as a positive role model

Relevant qualifications (e.g. TA qualification, Team Teach, MAPA, or similar) are desirable but not essential with the right background

We Offer:

A supportive and passionate staff team

Ongoing training and professional development opportunities

A structured and caring environment focused on emotional well-being and personal growth

The chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people every day

Help us empower pupils to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.
