Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Social, Emotional & Mental Health)

Location: Shifnal, Shropshire

Salary: £90 – £120 per day

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Temp to Perm

About the Role

SEND Inclusion Support are recruiting on behalf of a Shifnal-based school who are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.

School Overview

The school provides a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for pupils with SEMH needs. With a strong focus on personalised learning and pastoral care, the staff are committed to helping every child build confidence, resilience and achieve both academically and socially.

Role Overview

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide one-to-one and small group support, helping pupils to regulate emotions, engage with learning, and develop positive social skills.

Key Responsibilities

Provide tailored support for children with SEMH needs, encouraging engagement in learning.

*

Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote resilience and confidence.

*

Support behaviour management strategies and help pupils regulate emotions.

*

Assist with delivering individual learning and behaviour plans.

*

Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies.

*

Monitor and report on pupil progress to support ongoing development.

Requirements

*

Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or SEND is highly desirable.

*

Strong behaviour management skills with a calm, empathetic approach.

*

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

*

Resilience, patience, and adaptability when working with challenging behaviours.

*

Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, SEND, or youth work are an advantage but not essential.
