SEND Classroom Assistant

Leader Education are recruiting for a SEND Classroom Assistant to work at a small SEND school based near Amble. This school caters for children aged 2 to 19 years old with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) this role will involve working 1:1 with children or in small groups. This school celebrates itself on providing a meaningful and fun curriculum that engages all children. The ideal SEND Classroom Assistant will have some experience working with SEND children as well as a genuine interest and passion for education.

The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 3:30pm and is a long-term position given a successful trial.

The successful candidate will have:

An enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The ability to support the pupil in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities

A compassionate, understanding personality that values inclusivity and respect

Some experience supporting students with SEND in an education setting is desirable

An understanding of the safeguarding and ensuring the well-being of children

A good understanding of children who have SLD
