SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Acocks Green, Birmingham (B27)

Start Date: September 2025

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 12:00pm

Pay: £200-£250 per week

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Acocks Green, Birmingham (B27). This part-time morning role is to work on a 1:1 basis with a Year 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

About the Role:

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the learning and development of a pupil with ASD during the morning sessions. You will:

Provide tailored 1:1 support during lessons, helping the pupil access the curriculum effectively.

Break down lesson content into manageable and understandable tasks.

Monitor and record the pupil's progress, both inside and outside the classroom, to share with the class teacher.

Recognise and respond to cues when the pupil is becoming overwhelmed, and provide calm, structured time away from the class when needed with the use of Now and Next boards.

Work closely with the school SENCO to implement strategies and plan the best possible support.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly ASD.

A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent relevant qualification).

A good understanding of the Key Stage 1 curriculum and the ability to adapt it for children with additional needs.

Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.

A proactive and flexible approach to working in a school environment.
