SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-Time – Immediate Start

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We’re working with a well-regarded, purpose-built specialist school in the Oldham area to recruit full-time SEMH Teaching Assistants to begin as soon as possible.

This setting provides an exceptional learning environment for primary-aged pupils with a range of needs including SEMH, Autism, speech and language difficulties, and other additional learning needs. All pupils have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) and benefit from a highly personalised, child-centred approach to learning.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

Support pupils both in and out of class to access a broad and balanced curriculum

Help children build confidence, improve behaviour, and re-engage with learning

Encourage emotional development, resilience, and positive social interactions

Work closely with class teachers and therapists to implement individual learning and behaviour strategies

Support a low pupil-to-adult ratio within small, nurturing classes

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

Experience supporting children with SEMH, Autism, or additional needs, ideally in a school, PRU, or care setting

A calm, consistent and nurturing approach to behaviour support

Full availability, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

Desirable:

Experience with EHCPs or personalised learning plans

Training in Team Teach or other behaviour management strategies

A passion for inclusive education and helping children realise their potential

Additional Information:

This is a long-term, full-time role only (no part-time options)

All applicants must be UK-based and ready for an immediate start

The role is subject to enhanced DBS, safeguarding training, and reference chec

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
