In this role you'll be part of a close–knit team, working face–to–face with both colleagues and learners. You'll benefit from clear boundaries between work and home life, with no working from home allowed. That means NO MARKING, NO PLANNING in your weekends or evenings.

Details of this position:

This position is for a full time Peer Mentoring Tutor in prison education.

In this role, you'll deliver Peer Mentoring qualifications to small groups, developing mentors who will support learners in areas such as literacy, digital skills etc. You'll tailor training to ensure peer advocates are equipped to assist in prisoner induction and support services.

Deliver Gateway Qualifications in Peer Mentoring up to Level 2, supporting neurodiverse learners, low–literacy learners, and promoting digital literacy.Collaborate with healthcare and prison staff to effectively train peer advocates.Interview and allocate prisoners to peer mentoring roles, matching skills to position needs.Develop and monitor Individual Learning Plans, offering guidance to support each learner's success.

Work schedule: Full time 38.5 hours per week

Salary scale: Up to 35,000 per annum

Annual leave: 30 days per annum

To be considered, suitable candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

A Level 3 qualification (or above) in Peer Mentoring, Literacy, or a related field.A recognised teaching qualification such as PTLLS, AET, CET, or equivalent (Level 5 teaching qualification is highly desirable).Strong people skills, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with learners.Excellent organisational, communication, and problem–solving skills.

Suitable candidates will need to be enthusiastic, resilient and have a humanistic approach. This role will not be for everyone, but anyone with a slight interest is encouraged to apply and if suitable, you will have the opportunity to have a discussion with the hiring manager directly over the phone, who can provide more detail and an insight into life working in a prison.
