Outdoor SEN Support Assistant

Location: Wareham

Salary: £13.68 – £16.12 per hour (Depending on Experience)

Start Date: Immediate

Contract Type: Full-time/Part-time

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in an outdoor learning environment?

Do you want to help students develop both academically and socially through hands-on, practical experiences?

If so, GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Outdoor SEN Support Assistant to join a school in Wareham. This is a rewarding opportunity to work in an inclusive and supportive environment where you can make a real difference in the lives of learners. Ideally, candidates will hold a valid driving licence and be willing to drive as part of their role.

About the School:

The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.

About the Role:

As an Outdoor SEN Support Assistant, you will support teaching staff in delivering engaging outdoor and practical learning experiences. You will work closely with students with SEN, helping them build confidence, independence, and essential life skills while taking part in outdoor educational activities.

Key Responsibilities of an Outdoor SEN Support Assistant:

Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN in outdoor learning activities.

Assist teachers in planning and delivering practical and engaging lessons outside the classroom.

Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development.

Promote independence, confidence, and life skills through outdoor experiences.

Help manage classroom and outdoor behaviour, encouraging positive attitudes.

Prepare and maintain resources and equipment for outdoor learning sessions.

Monitor pupil progress and provide observations and feedback to teaching staff.

Ensure the safety and well-being of all pupils during outdoor activities.

Drive learners safely to off-site outdoor activities if required.

Outdoor SEN Support Assistant Requirements:

Experience working with children or young people, preferably with SEN.

Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting learners.

Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 or equivalent desirable but not essential.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A valid driving licence and willingness to drive.

Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
