Description

Smart Education is currently recruiting for Learning Support Assistants to work in both mainstream and Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools across the Teesside area. Whether you re experienced in supporting pupils with additional needs or thriving in a general classroom environment, we have flexible placements to suit full–time and part–time availability.

Job requirements:

Experience of working with children or young people (classroom, voluntary, or paid).

A genuine interest in education and helping pupils achieve their potential.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills able to build rapport with pupils, staff, and parents.

Patience, adaptability, and a calm, positive approach.

Ability to follow guidance from teaching staff and work as part of a team.

Understanding or willingness to learn about differentiation and inclusive teaching strategies.

For SEN roles: some experience or training in supporting cognition and learning needs, autism, behaviour support, or other SEND areas is desirable.

Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one) applicants must not be barred from regulated activity with children.

Role responsibilities:

Mainstream settings:

Supporting class teachers with the delivery of lessons, including differentiated tasks.

Assisting small groups or individuals to reinforce learning objectives.

Encouraging positive behaviour and contributing to a focused learning environment.

Helping with basic classroom organisation, resources, and supervision.

Observing and feeding back pupil progress to teaching staff.

SEN settings:

Providing tailored 1:1 or small group support for pupils with identified additional needs.

Implementing personalised learning or intervention plans under direction.

Supporting communication, social skills, sensory needs, and behaviour strategies.

Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., therapists, SENCOs) to support holistic development.

Recording and reporting on behavioural incidents, progress, and adjusting approaches as needed.
