Learning Mentor - SEN/SEMH

Salary: £90 - £110

Contract: Full‑time, term‑time only

Start Date: September 2025

Location: Chorley

The Role

A SEN/SEMH school in Chorley is seeking a skilled Learning Mentor to work with children and young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, often alongside autism, ADHD, or speech and language difficulties. The role involves:

Providing daily 1:1 and small‑group mentoring for pupils who struggle with engagement, attendance or behaviour.

Supporting pupils in lessons - helping them regulate emotions and remain focused.

Leading targeted sessions on resilience, confidence‑building and social skills.

De‑escalating incidents calmly using restorative and trauma‑informed approaches.

Liaising with teachers, parents/carers and external agencies to ensure consistent support.

Recording and tracking progress to celebrate improvements and inform next steps.

Requirements

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional needs (school, PRU, youth work, or residential care settings).

Strong interpersonal and behaviour‑management skills with a calm, consistent approach.

Ability to build positive, trusting relationships quickly.

Flexibility to adapt to different age groups and needs.

A willingness to undertake Team Teach or equivalent training (advantageous if already trained).

Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
