Working with Children with Past Trauma and ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) – Special Educational Needs and Mental Health (SEMH) Focus:

At our organization, we recognize the importance of addressing the unique needs of students who have experienced past trauma and ACEs. The successful Learning Mentor will play a crucial role in providing specialized support to children facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Key responsibilities in this regard include:

– Trauma–Informed Approach: Implementing a trauma–informed approach to support students who have experienced adverse childhood experiences. This involves creating a safe and supportive environment that acknowledges and responds to the impact of trauma on learning and behavior.

– Individualized Support Plans: Collaborating with educational professionals to develop and implement individualized support plans that cater specifically to the social, emotional, and mental health needs of students. This may involve working closely with external agencies and professionals.

– Behavioral Intervention: Utilizing effective behavioral intervention strategies to address challenging behaviors stemming from trauma or emotional difficulties. This includes employing positive behavior management techniques and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

– Building Trusting Relationships: Recognizing the importance of building trusting relationships with students, understanding that a strong and supportive connection can be transformative for those who have experienced trauma.

– Training and Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices and innovative approaches in supporting students with SEMH needs.

We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic individual who is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of students with complex needs. If you have experience or a keen interest in working with children who have faced trauma or ACEs and possess the necessary skills to provide effective support, we encourage you to apply.

TeacherActive is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within our organization. We welcome applications from individuals with a passion for supporting students with diverse needs.

All applicants will be contacted to discuss suitability and then invited to register with TeacherActive.
