Description

The Role:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who may be at risk of exclusion or are already in alternative provision due to challenging behaviour, trauma, or complex SEMH needs. Working closely with teaching staff, SEN teams, and pastoral leaders, you’ll help create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where students can re-engage with learning and develop essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Build positive, trusted relationships with students who display challenging or disruptive behaviour.

Provide 1:1 and small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour.

Support teachers in the classroom, helping to de-escalate situations and promote engagement.

Implement behaviour management strategies and personalised support plans.

Act as a role model, mentor, and advocate for students, supporting their personal, social, and academic progress.

Monitor and record behavioural incidents and contribute to EHCP reviews and pastoral plans.

Collaborate with parents, carers, and external agencies to provide a consistent and coordinated support network.

Promote a calm, structured, and therapeutic environment that supports trauma-informed and restorative approaches.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience: At least 1 year of experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour, ideally in an AP, PRU, or SEMH setting.

Training: Knowledge of behaviour de-escalation techniques

Safeguarding: Understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.

Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to remain calm and positive under pressure.

DBS: Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) on the Update Service or willingness to apply (applicant to cover cost if not held).

Drivers Licence: Holds a UK Driver's Liscence
